Spring Yoga Retreat – 8th – 11th March 2012
On this Spring Retreat you will explore an inner journey…. enabling you to gain a deeper understanding of yoga and yourself.
Each day will begin early, with a silent walk or a guided mediation, followed by three hours of vigorous and energizing Vinyasa Yoga going with the flow. This is followed by a leisurely Brunch and after spending a relaxing afternoon of your choice, four o’clock tea will be served followed by two hours of Yin Yoga and Zen meditation.
Esther will lead you through the daily yoga practices to include, Asana (steady posture) with hands-on adjustments, Pranayama (the breath) Bandha (the locks), Mudra (the seals) and Mantra (the sounds and vibrations) and guided relaxation. For those students whom are new to the practice of yoga a separate class will be offered in the morning introducing the basic postures and principles of yoga.
Ginny will be teaching you the basic principles and practices of Zen meditation followed by a guided meditation sitting and will be offering a complementary back massage or Indian head massage during your stay.
The morning practice of Vinyasa Yoga (going with the flow) will be physically and intellectually challenging. The structure of Vinyasa makes you go through an entire spectrum of postures. The series work like a combination lock; if you do the right poses in the right order the, mind and body automatically open up. The poses are generally in succession, creating heat in the body through movement or more slowly to increase stamina and perfect the alignment of the pose. Students will have a chance to ask questions during this class and perhaps go beyond their ‘comfort zone’ under the expert guidance of their teacher.
Afternoon practice of Yin Yoga addresses the deeper spiritual dimensions of yoga. The Yin aspect of yoga using postures that stretch connective tissue is vital for a balanced approach to physical and mental health. Although connective tissue is found in every bone, muscle, and organ, it is most concentrated at the joints. If you gently stretch connective tissue by holding a yin pose for a long time, the body will respond by making them a little longer and stronger – which is exactly what you want! Yoga exercises improve circulation, stimulate the abdominal organs, and put pressure on the glandular system, of the body, which can generally result to better health.
