Ayurveda – The Science of Life
20th – 22nd January & 13th – 15th July 2012

This workshop is an introductory course in understanding our individual body types, so we can learn how to achieve better health. Ayurveda, which translates as the Science of life, is a natural holistic health care system, which originated in India over 5000 years ago.

A very basic overview would be that Ayurveda looks at a person as a combination of elements, which, depending on the unique formula, results in different attributes and weakness. Some people seem stronger than others, such people have, in Ayurvedic terms, more of the Earth element. Others seem quick to anger and must eat at a set time or watch out, this is a result of the fire element. Knowing how to interpret these elements, results in a greater understanding of how the individual is at the present time and where elements have increased from the optimum level, and may need balancing.

All of this is a very individual process, as like our DNA, we are all unique. You may have heard terms like Pitta, Vata or Kapha… Knowing these terms can be useful if you understand Vata is a combination of Air and Ether, which could be drying, possibly leading to constipation. However, it is important to remember we cannot choose our make up, as we would a new car. We are what we are, and need to make the best of the combination we inherited from our ancestors at birth.

Ayurveda has gained worldwide recognition as a viable complement to mainstream medicine, and can have a place alongside western medicine, as it is like a regular check up and check in with your body, listening for signs where things may not be working as well as they could. It is especially useful for problems relating to digestion, nutrition, ageing, as well as stress related problems.

During the two-day workshop you will be introduced to the basic principles of Ayurveda and will be given practical health tips, recipes and lifestyle approaches based on Ayurvedic principles. Each participant will also receive an individual health assessment from an Ayurvedic Doctor as well as an individual pulse analysis. Ayurvedic workshop delivered by:
